A Practically Perfect Party

I drank the "Disney Kool-Aid" at a very young age and by far one of my all time favorite characters is Mary Poppins. I have wanted to throw a Mary Poppins themed party for a while now and when my friend Kara's daughter was turning four - I found my opportunity. Her daughter, Olivia, loves Mary Poppins as much as I do.

I had my party planning meeting with Olivia and learned that she is old school Mary Poppins and kites are one of her favorite things in the movie. I also learned that she was having her party at Chuck E. Cheese - which would hinder our decorating. After giving it some thought, I presented Olivia (and her mom) with the following plan: incredible invitations, fun centerpieces for the table, awesome t-shirts for thank you gifts, "spoonful of sugar" cake pops and a kite themed cake topper to adorn a fantastic cake that would be made by my friend Kayla (@slakenbake_).

Olivia and her friends had a great time and I got to create decorations that I've been wanting to make for years now - it was a perfect partnership! :-)

Handmade Mary Poppins Invitation
Utilizing a widely available Mary Poppins background, I added fun fonts to the layout and gorgeous papers to create this incredible invitation. Made from solid cardstock, glitter cardstock and printed copy paper.

Mary Poppins Centerpiece
I created centerpieces for the tables that pull in several elements from Mary Poppins. Quotes from Mary's tape measure encircle the yellow pail that is filled with daisies. Mary's hat and kite are included as well as a rosette with a birthday greeting for the guest of honor. All paper elements are the same on the front and back since the centerpieces are seen from both sides. I laid out the design for the tape measure quotes, cut them from adhesive vinyl and then adhered around the yellow pails. (Practically perfect in every way, Extremely stubborn and suspicious, Rather inclined to giggle and doesn’t put things away). I filled the pails with white daisies – of course!

Spoonful of Sugar cake balls
Kayla (@slakenbake_) also baked some awesome crystal sugar encrusted cake balls. I created these adorable tags for the spoon that would hold the cake ball. Each kid attending the party received a "Spoonful of Sugar."

supercalifragilistic t-shirts
All the kids raved over their thank you gifts. I designed supercalifragilistic t-shirts with Mary’s hat (for the girls) and Bert (for the boys). The girls’ design was created using a hat svg file that was purchased and for the boys I used a readily available silhouette of Bert. I cut both designs from heat transfer vinyl and applied to the shirts using my heat press.

Practically Perfect Thank You Tag
Each child attending the Mary Poppins birthday party received their t-shirt in a paper handle bag. We created a thank you tag to hang from each bag.
